I was wondering the same thing. I'd do Frye, Shumpert and that Nets' pick for Melo and O'Quinn.

That hip injury played a huge factor in this trade. Celtics no longer have to worry about contract negotiations with a player that developed a strong celtics fans base. Injured undersized guards lose value very fast. When you are shorter than the average player, you have to use more explosive moves, so your wheels must be 100% healthy to be effective. I wouldn't be surprised if IT starts the season on injured reserve.
Wow, the Knicks didn't overpay for a big name. They didn't give up picks and prospects for someone who would help in the short-term. This Mills/Perry regime appears to be different.

Agreed. Nobody would ever give us a lottery pick for Melo at this stage of his career. Id be very happy with Crowder. Shumpert does get injured quite a bit but can still defend a little.
Nets pick likely 1-4. Thomas might be damaged goods. If not, he is a notch below Kylie but older. Key to this trade is Thomas this year with Lebron. Crowder also give them depth and is a quality starter.
As for Celtics, they have Tatum who might be a future star, and Brown developing and deserving minutes. The brilliance is not use the trade, but the roster. They have yooth emerging!!! They also have Horford, Haywood and still a nice inventory of draft picks.
I like this trade for both teams. Cav's can still compete this year with Lebron and if he leaves, they have a high draft pick to build with. It also saves them a ton of money. If Lebron leaves and Thomas is damaged they can just let him walk and still be OK.

I just want a 3 that can actually defend their position, and Crowder can. For the Celtics this is an interesting trade because I'm not sure they are a better team. I guess they needed to clear some minutes for Tatum and Brown but Crowder is a very valuable piece. Im not sure if they were better off dealing Brown for a lock down defender at SG instead. Crowder, Tatum, and Hayward is probably the best collection of forwards in the NBA

This is a good trade for both teams, no one really got fleeced.
This is the kind of trade phil wanted for melo, and if melo had open up his options he would have gotten it

disagree, though I love Thomas. Bottom line is IT is small. You can negate his awesomeness by putting someone big on him. I think three's a good chance Frank might be able to slow IT down this year. I don't think that's realistic against Kyrie. Plus, IT is going for his big contract at age 30
great trade for both teams. Cleveland is better this year and after LBJ walks, they can reload with the Brooklyn pick. Boston on the hand has chance to set its long-term core - it's clear now that they would let IT walk instead of giving him $200 mil
This could potentially be great for us because if LBJ walks, Cleveland probably trades Love and lets IT walk. Not saying I necessarily would target them but it's nice to have options

Phil explored a big haul to trade KP.
Fact is Isiah Thomas is a 29 year old midget with a bad hip and will be a free agent, and the nets pick should be a top 3 pick, but that is not how it always works. Trade is not a bonafide home run for Clev.

Or they just didn't have the assets, which I think is more likely. Don't be surprised to see them do another boneheaded decision in 2018...like being the only team willing to offer Isiah Thomas max.

I can see it if Lebron said he'd stay. Does Gilbert parlay that pick into Melo? A chance at a second ring? To me the only way Cav's can orchestrate a soft landing is to start rebuilding. Crowder and the pick is a nice asset for a depleted franchise of youth. Thomas if healthy can light it up.
Cav's have choices now and likely won't be held hostage by LeBron again.

Yeah, you're probably right. I think the Nets will likely produce a mid-to-late lottery pick but the fact that this isn't a fact, will likely have the Cavs valuing it far more. For the record though, I don't think they give up Crowder either. He's a perfect fit for what they need against the Warriors.

This isn't a horrible trade from Ainge by any means. He did the right thing in selling high on Thomas.
Guys who are 5'9" just can't keep balling at that level for that long.
He traded a currently good player, a role player and the Nets pick (which is big) for a guy who adds a little more star power to a team that already has Hayward.
