Records are not always predictors to the outcome.
They are getting healthy and on paper team is starting to emerge.
Its along season and they are not the same as the team we played in October. Nor are we for that matter.
Its the NBA, parity exists.Let's be real here Nalod.
Heaven forbid our Knicks were the 13th seed with all of our "great young talent" our NYC Fan Base would attack the head coach (after every single game) and also attack our players for playing non-efficient basketball.
Funny how Knicks fans give Orlando "patience" to develop young talent but when it comes to our extremely young team with kids like R.J. Barrett?
Different story, now isn't it?
Funny would be thinking RJ is like Kobe.
3rd worst team within the Eastern Conference.
13th seed.NYC fans who be screaming to blow it up, fire the head coach and trade away the entire roster for a real Superstar.
You know it.
And I know it.
The Knicks are being led by two All-Star Caliber players in Jalen Brunson/Julius Randle alongside of extremely young talent in Immanuel Quickley, Quentin Grimes, R.J. Barrett, Obi Toppin & Mitchell Robinson (+ Deuce McBride and Jericho Sims).
The Knicks have a much higher ceiling along with a boat load of future 1st round picks too.
Orlando:
Offensive Rating = 25th.
Defensive Rating = 21st.
Net Rating = 26th.
Turnover Percentage = 26th.Please stop overrating this Orlando teams "future".
Orlando has mad upside. This team, in it's current form has maxed out it's potential.
R.J. Barrett = 22.
Quentin Grimes = 22.
Deuce McBride = 22.
Immanuel Quickley = 23.
Obi Toppin = 24.
Isaiah Hartenstein = 24.
Jericho Sims = 24.
Mitchell Robinson = 24.Average age = 23.1
But yet we've got fans both acting and pretending as if these kids have maxed out their potential and won't continue to develop until 26-28 years of age? It's mind boggling for me and I can't understand nor comprehend.
Heck.
Our 2 All-Star Caliber players in Jalen Brunson and Julius Randle are only 26 and 28 years of age (not 35 and 38 like Kevin Durant and LeBron James etc).
And on top of all our youth we've got a boat load of 1st round draft picks hidden in the chamber as well?
Yeah.
Right.
Okay."Maxed out".
You make a compelling argument, but the fear with youth is not that they won’t max out, it’s that they won’t develop fully during their contract term, forcing the economic question whether to pay for their further development and how much. How much does IQ get in free agency? How much is he worth here in this role? Thing is that another team should offer him a full MLE and a starting role in the offense. We have middling stars right now that are playing well, but nothing elite. Until we find elite, we are in that 11-20 draft slot. It’s kind of the doldrums. Youth is blocked by middling stars and their high usage so an IQ can’t get the playing time to show out as a Dame Lillard type. Draft picks are middling so they can’t really command a larger role. So, we need a little luck and maybe some smooth dealing to fill in the blanks here and pull this team together.

And the Orlando Magic isn't mid as it currently stands and need a lot more tank seasons in order to gain more talent. Because they absolutely stink. They're the 13th seed in the East and the 5th worst team within the entire NBA. And it's not because of great potential or youth either; it's because they SUCK.
The talent on that team is legit. Banchero. Fultz. Suggs. Wagner. Isaacs. Bol. Bamba. Anthony. They are pretty young and huge upside. Fultz and Isaac have big injury question marks but I don’t know, I think they compete sooner rather than later.
I kind of feel like the Knicks played a major role in the development of this squad. Last season they destroyed the Magic in the first game and then the Magic came to the Garden and got a huge win. Knicks/ Kemba went into a tailspin after that and never regained their mojo until Brunson signed.
I really thought EF had earned some decent playing time over the last two games. Especially against the Magic I would have liked to see him start the 2nd and 4th quarters.
Seems like the scouting report was "Let RJ shoot 3's" I guess it only kind of worked (3-8) though I'm not sure how to figure the banked in one. Pretty tight line between poor shooting (2-8) and good shooting (3-8). RJ's 2-8 on 2's was ugly but to his credit he looked to assist more in the 4th. I think he had a few good passes that obi wasn't able to convert.
Overall, great team win.

Wouldnt mind seeing a Brunson/Fultz backcourt, if they aren't planning to make IQ a starter.
So Jalen Brunson has already became my favorite Knicks PG of All-Time.
(Sorry, Mark Jackson).

I get what you are saying and you make very good points that have to be considered.
However, this sounds like same argument that Boston Celtic fans were giving just two years ago.
No one can predict what the future is but NYM is responding to someone doing so. One who claimed our roster is "maxed out". Ignoring that we are very young, Meaning, there is a higher probability that we are not. I feel there is much more room for growth and we have a team full of guys that have not met there potential. Also disagree with IQ being blocked by "middling ' stars. Feel JB, RJ are an All Star level caliber. Not to mention IQ has had no problem getting plenty of playing time.
Of course getting an elite level player will help but point was that the kids we have, have a much higher possible level. Think we will all be surprised. If we are patient.

Fultz ugly outside shot and history of anxiety in the pressure cooker we call NY? Pass!
Good game ince again by JB and JR.
IQ, Grimes and Sims were solid and played well.
Knicks are now on the Trade Clock.

Not the same. Everyone acknowledged that the Celtics were underachieving at the time. In the Knicks case, I think most people will tell you the Knicks are playing at their highest possible ceiling.
Clyde said it too.
Nalod said it before the game. This was not me making a prediction, it was just stating a fact.
First half was awful, slow and plotting game. Good finish! Come from behind on the road need be appreciated.
Given the amount of knick fans in attendance, it was hardly a road game!
NYMentality, the crew they kept showing (shout out to the dude with long stringy hair and the sunglasses!) looked like your kind of crowd! I have gone from Sarasota to Orlando, and back to see knick games there! There and in Miami are huge knick contingencies!
89miles!!! You should have been if you living in Tampa!
I drive 99 miles each way when I see knicks in Charlotte.

Nothing. I know people who've driven 2-3X that distance multiple times in a summer for a Gov't Mile show. You just a need a little something to get you in the right mood.

Good points and the conundrum many teams face.
RJ to some has been given the time and despite his youth, opinion by some is he is who he is. Where McBride is just a month younger has a world of upside.
Take a step back and its obvious if knick are to keep picks not all will be resigned or will be traded.
Fans love the dunkers. OBI really has not progressed beyond the highlight reel and when he gets hot from the outside.
It does not bother me he can’t supplant allstar randle, but that he might only fetch a 2nd round pick in return.
But then you have Deuce, IQ and Grimes outplaying their draft status. That’s important.
Orlando did well with Fultz, but Suggs seems to not be rising to his draft pick status. Many teams have this. its not just a knick thing.
Sims was great doing what he does. The Oop from RJ and his dunk fed from Brunson were key baskets. they were assists late in the game. We fans tend to focus on stereotype knicks don’t pass in the 4th quarter. They do.
TWas a very satisfying 4th quarter last night!

I think I saw a graphic which said the game had the 3Rd highest attendance in franchise history. All I could think about was "Hasn't this franchise been to the Finals twice?"

Or maybe they trade their assets for a vet and make the next step.fishmike wrote:10 games below .500.NYKMentality wrote:Fans have been super patient with RJ. 4 years patient. They are 6-4 their last 10 and have been doing well.Sorry but I actually live down here in Florida these days (Tampa Bay) and there's nothing for me to respect (as an NBA fan) about an Orlando team that's 10 games below .500 and the 3rd worst team within the entire Eastern Conference (only better than DET/CHA tank teams).
Not to mention IQ has had no problem getting plenty of playing time.Of course getting an elite level player will help but point was that the kids we have, have a much higher possible level. Think we will all be surprised. If we are patient.
Not the same. Everyone acknowledged that the Celtics were underachieving at the time. In the Knicks case, I think most people will tell you the Knicks are playing at their highest possible ceiling.
Huh? Robinson out. RJ, Grimes and IQ working to get more consistent. Obi trying to get back to pre injury shooting. Deuce just starting to gain some offensive confidence.
Agree that we have to add better bench pieces. But no way we are playing at our highest possible level.
Saying Boston was underachieving is based on retrospective views. At the time they went 36-36, you would find few fans or any Boston media that had your sentiment. It was quite the opposite, one filled with chants to break up the top three.
We're getting better winning these close games which is a great sign. Randle and Brunson both hit clutch shots and most importantly hit their FT's. Randle hit a big three and Brunson had like three clutch shots in the last 5 minutes including an And1. Great job by Sims filling in for Hartenstein who took the night off with foul trouble. Sims WILL win the Slam Dunk Contest. GUARANTEED! Refs were awful in this game btw. Great game off the bench by IQ too. Crossing my fingers he is not included in a trade but if I was an opposing team I'd be asking for him.
Another mixed bag game by RJ. Started off horribly but made some key shots in the second half. His defense continues to be an issue. That play where he completely lost Wagner on an inbound pass in inexcusable! RJ is a good kid and a hard worker and there is every reason to believe he will work hard to improve but right now he's become frustrating to watch with the missed open threes, missed layup's and awful defense.
Not a good last game by Obi as a Knick. I expect him traded tomorrow.
Kudos to Orlando. Banchero is talented and they have a bunch of nice young players. Very impressed with Fultz. He looked like a mini Westbrook. Super athletic and talented! Love the Wagner brothers too. Nice likeable team. Too bad their arena was 90% Knicks fans but it's always been like that.
LET'S MAKE SOME TRADES!
