Kelly is the hot talk and perhaps a good choice.
I trust the powers that be don't fuck it up.
Trump got romanced by Vance and we all learning he grew up middle class and went to Yale. Them Trump folk don't like the educated. "they think they are better than uneducated".
We do. Sorry, its just how things work.

Mark certainly has my vote, but I'm biased. He is from my home town. I knew him and his twin brother in high school and even hung out with them on occasion. He is life long friends of another close friend of mine. IMO very real, sincere and good person with strong values.

Oh wow so good, thanks for sharing

PA Gov. Josh Shapiro: 19 electoral votes

MN Gov. Tim Walz: 10 electoral votes

MI Gov. Gretchen Whitmer: 15 electoral votes

Cooper seems to give off that conservative southern feel.

Not really. He is business type who gets things done. I have met him a few Tims as his AG, Josh Stein who is running for Gov. Really smart dudes who don't get tangled in the weeds of stupidity.
Saw Elvis Costello in 2019 in really small venue that did not have seating, but did have a VIP area was invited to. Roy was hanging out with us and was singing along. Love it if he got nomination and voted in. Good For our state! They Love Shipiro in PA! Witmer would be a good choice but all female ticket might be much.
Shapiro is jewish. We ready for that? black women president, jewish VP? The hate from that will be intense.

Harris has it but the "Coronation" won't happen until the convention but really important that Dem's not fracture thus I doubt anyone makes a run for the nomination. She has 3 weeks to come on out.

Was a compliment in terms of what’s needed to secure some of that older white conservative vote Biden was able to attract. Agree he is a good businessman and also centrist in my opinion. Which will help the ticket.

Kelly's wife is jewish, they were married by a rabbi. That would be a step in the right direction without hopefully a lot of drama.

They go after Kelly's spouse, given her backstory, its likely going to backfire.

I remember when it happened. Awful. Took a great deal of strength for Giffords to recover from that kind of a head injury. Kelly gave up his career to take care of her.

Giffords and Kelly would have a larger platform to advocate for sensible gun control if Kelly were part of a winning ticket.

Kelly says that he owns more guns than the average American, so it would be difficult to frame him as a far left "hater" of the second amendment.

Tactically I'm not sure if it's the best pick but I do love that they are considering a Pete type pick. He is so good.

Agree, the times we live in. But Im sure he would be offered to be part of Harris's cabinet, should she win. Maybe offered Defense secretary, given his military intelligence background, and experience running a large dept like the DOT.

martin @ 7/24/2024 12:11 PM

is tactful for it's a terrible and the WORST idea. Typical out think yourselves move by dems. He will get a high job in the cabinet and do important work.

VP gig is for electability and sounds bites. That's IT. Let's just win.

Republicans will probably lose sleep just thinking it could be a possibility.

If a woman of color and a gay dude were to get elected, I think some would just spontaneously explode.

From Huffpo

Good news

Sen. Mark Kelly (Ariz.), a contender to become Vice President Kamala Harris’ running mate on the Democratic presidential ticket, told HuffPost on Wednesday that he would vote in favor of the pro-union legislation known as the Protecting the Right to Organize Act.

Kelly’s lack of full commitment to the PRO Act, as it’s known, has stood as a possible barrier to him becoming Democrats’ vice-presidential nominee, since labor unions are a crucial part of the Democratic coalition. Harris has become the presumptive nominee since President Joe Biden withdrew from the race on Sunday.

I'm not a democrat and not going to engage in political debates here anymore BUT I will say as someone who recently moved from NY to NC, Gov Cooper has really done a phenomenal job here. He hits all the marks in terms of getting the job done as a governor. He's also a blue Gov in a state going pretty deep red (supermajority legislature now) which is always interesting. Great public schools but also great school choice environment here, superb business environment, exploding population growth around the major cities and coastline, quality of roads/infrastructure frankly makes NY and other states up north look embarrassing in comparison, tons of jobs and high wages compared to COL. I don't know how much flair he has but he's as good as I've seen from a tactical perspective.

Shapiro scares me a bit out of someone who does not want the dems to win, he seems to have next president vibes, but being unapologetically Jewish in the Democrat party brings some challenges right now.

Lmao. True.

Issue is what votes does Pete add that Dems already don’t have?
Like Pete. Think he would be great in debating Vance and his many flip flops.

Could you or Nalod help me understand how Cooper as a Dem was able to convince voters initially? Was it a reach across isle? Full party ticket? Just opportunity? Right ideas. What did it take to get there and then sustain?

I legit don’t know how states like Minny and NC flip and then further march left.

What has been their path?

I hear stuff like Pete “is so good” a lot. Why is he so good? Would someone please share with me what achievements he’s had that would warrant his selection? Yes he’s good in front of the camera but that’s all I see unless I’m missing something

Wish I had more insight but I don't - I'm a relatively new transplant here. But Trump won NC in 2016 and 2020 and it's pretty reliably red now beyond the Governorship. Sorta like Manchin in WV all those years. I always find that interesting.

The way I understand it is this - NC has two major cities, Raleigh and Charlotte, that have dense populations and vote democrat. Cooper ran as a centrist but has gone full democrat with his policy. I have a good friend who is a Senator at the State level. I will ask him his thoughts on Cooper the next time I see him.
